HYBE faces criticism for alleged lack of effort in creating merchandise for RM's solo album 'Right Place, Wrong Person'

On May 27, 2024, HYBE gave BTS fans a closer look at Namjoon's "Right Place, Wrong Person" merch collection. The next day, the company introduced the exclusive set to the eagerly awaiting fan base. Among the collection were cushion covers with "Right Place" and "Wrong Person" written separately to be sold together, mugs, coffee mugs, door hangers, stickers, and more. The merch collection is available on Weverse Shop globally.

However, the anticipation and excitement the brand had built around this new launch yesterday was swept away by sighs of disappointment. Fans were disillusioned with the supposed lack of effort in designing the album merchandise collection they loved so much. Several BTS ARMYs spoke out to say that HYBE should fire their creative team and the designers who came up with the ideas for this collection.

  • “I’m going to complain about this publicly. The Indigo derivative products were a thousand times prettier and better thought out. Hybe needs new designers. These are just my personal thoughts! “
  • “Could Hybe entrust the design of derivative products to ARMs... This one was made by an ARMY... Because they don't even make an effort anymore, it's like those mass produced things that don't it doesn't matter who can print... You know, the ones where you felt the Tannies influence, it was great... They were unique designs... Now it's just printing. Even the PTD merchandise was good... The lack of effort is not only in the marketing, but also in the merchandise... BTS needs to come back soon lol. »
  • “Derivatives are probably the only aspect of RPWP that Hybe has had a majority of influence over and of course they ruined everything. An album this innovative deserves much cooler derivative products. Honestly, all we would have needed was a set of these adorable little LOST mini-joon figures! »

Many fans wrote that they found it "disgusting" that the company created a tie-in with Namjoon's second album. They claimed the coffee mugs and cushion covers could be found in any local store for a fraction of the price of the merchandise.

  • “I don't want to be that person, but I find it truly disgusting how every derivative of their art since they enlisted lacks any real connection to the original pieces! There's no point spending your money, let's continue the boycott! »
  • “You can really see how little Hybe was involved with rpwp because the difference in quality speaks for itself. »
  • “These designs are so lazy, we might stumble across these same mugs at your local Marshalls. »
  • “The fact that they no longer make an effort to create merchandise with a nice design because they know you will buy them anyway is embarrassing. I'm surprised you haven't seen that as an insult yet. »

On the other hand, some fans found the designs absolutely suitable.

  • “I'm not surprised that Joon's RPWP merchandise is casual and low-key. This fits perfectly with the concept. »
  • " It is a need !! I need this and the Monochrome merchandise so much,”

Namjoon's fans, who were eagerly awaiting the release of the album's merch collection, were shocked to see the lack of creativity and heavily criticized HYBE. They expected the collection to include mugs with "Inside Namjoon's head" written on them and small figurines from the music video for the song "LOST!" ". However, some felt that the concept of the products could have been "minimalist" to keep in line with the concept of RM's album. Although the majority did not have a very favorable opinion of the products.

The South Korean musician released his second album digitally on May 24, 2024. Despite enlisting in the military in December 2023, he prepared the album from February last year and completed its recording, the filming of the music video and promotional videos, thus offering his fans one last gift before his return in June 2025.

Fans praised Namjoon's dedication, creative flair and experimental new alternative music, which was reflected in his new solo act and earned him the biggest start on Spotify as the first Korean and K-pop soloist in 2024 with over 14 million streams. The title song “LOST!” » entered the number one position on the iTunes World Song Chart on the first day and reigned for three days.

Additionally, listeners around the world praised Namjoon for creating tracks in his new ensemble that reminded them of the 2000s hip-hop music scene.

Honestly, guys, let go of Hybe. We already have the black widow and her oartisans who shoot red cannonballs at the slightest letter that bears the name HYBE without you getting involved too. You like these boys, they like BPD so the equation is simple. Don't come and add grist to the haters' already strong coffee. Thank you for your kindness. You don't like it, keep your money but please keep quiet for once

But wasn’t it V who collaborated with the “black widow”?
If we follow your logic, should we like MHJ because V likes him?
Or are we shooting at him like you shoot at “the black widow”?
