Viral claim that BTS plagiarized lyrics has been denied

The article titled “HYBE's Crimes Regarding BTS Plagiarism” that a netizen posted on theqoo on Tuesday, May 28 quickly went viral. He explains how HYBE handled plagiarism accusations against the K-pop group and covered them up, making BTS look like a victim.

In detail, the netizen describes how the members, especially SUGA, RM and j-hope, the rap line of the K-pop group, plagiarized their lyrics from several artists, including Drake, Yankee, TOP of BIGBANG, SoNyeoRadio, Kim Gaeri, Gaeko, etc.

To prove this claim, he presented the different similarities between the lyrics and it was when the accusations intensified that the internet user said that the group had addressed the issue in 2015 through their official Twitter account, now known under the name of X, @BTS_twt, denying these accusations. This is an incident that took place shortly after the group's debut.

Still according to the Internet user, around 2015, RM admitted to not having cited the sources of inspiration for his words, which has however been denied and clarified since 2020 thanks to the interview he gave to Weverse, in which he said his only regret was not having cited his sources of inspiration.

In no way did he admit or state that he and the band had plagiarized lyrics, he explained that it was by mistake that he forgot where the source came from or if those lyrics already existed. Netizens nevertheless explained that their agency, which was then BigHit Music, made it appear that the K-pop group was the victim of false accusations, given that a video recording of one of the group's concerts in 2018 showed the members plagued by these accusations, which made it possible to reformulate the story as if the group had not committed plagiarism.

This question was raised by the netizen amid the ongoing feud between HYBE and ADOR, where HYBE Labels, the K-pop group's agency, has recently been exposed to several factors such as ranking manipulation, media game, etc.

Netizen discusses HYBE Labels' alleged cover-up of BTS plagiarism amid agency's conflict with ADOR

An article published on theqoo on May 28 by an Internet user on allegations of plagiarism and ranking manipulation against BTS created a buzz on the Internet. The article highlighted how HYBE Labels covered up its artists' mistakes and controversies in the agency's dispute with ADOR.

According to the netizen, BTS was accused not only of plagiarism, but also of ranking manipulation, and although it was never proven that these were legitimate facts, the netizen tried to explain that it is rather the actions and attitude of HYBE Labels with regard to these accusations which are in question. Indeed, instead of directly tackling the problem, they made BTS appear to be the victims of these accusations, explains the Internet user who therefore declared:

« We could see the acronyms Plagiarism Boys and Sajaegi there. At the time, this community was flooded with comments arguing that although Sajaegi's allegations (ranking manipulation) were false, BTS had admitted to the plagiarism accusations ».

« Come to think of it, it's impossible that BigHit Music and HYBE Labels didn't know the verdict on Sajaegi's accusations and that the leader of their only group has already apologized (for the plagiarism). But they still did such a thing to arouse fans' grief and anger during the concert, which subsequently became HYBE's signature " he added.

While understanding that the article aims to expose HYBE Labels' alleged illegal methods, fans remain defensive and reject the claim that BTS plagiarized or manipulated their music.

ARMY will laugh and let the angry, hateful, slanderous and pseudo-offended spit their venom
Thanks to the black widow who does not want to leave the Hybe premises, they have the wind in their sails and are firing on all cylinders but we must not forget that THE TOAD SLIP (MHJ and its supporters and other detractors of Hybe, Big Hit and BTS) DOES NOT REACH THE WHITE DOVE (BTS mainly and I will say BPD and the others including ARMY).
Even better yet: THE CHIEN BARKS AND THE CARAVAN PASSES.

BY THE WAY, the crybaby succeeded with the court in suspending her immediate dismissal but it is only a matter of time or a small setback. She and all her supporters will eventually find the front door of the building and their sad names erased from Hybe's organizational chart. For my part, I will not support any group that bears the Ador Label. We can consider this petty, too bad, I'm going to play the lobotomized person in my turn.

What I see is mainly old stories resurfacing and this one attacking the group behind their backs during their military service. I find it disgusting to attack people in their absence.
And what the person demonstrates is erroneous, if we look at all the texts that have been created since the existence of man, everyone has already plagiarized someone.

Ines

I completely agree with you!

Is no one really suspicious of why and how suddenly all of this is blowing up? With this perfect timing? They have made hundreds of songs/music and with the above examples I can count to around 10 parts which sound similar and it could be possible. They are musicians who listen to music and look for inspirations while working on one and sometimes some words may come to their mind which they had heard somewhere else and got stuck to them – something that maybe they truly believed and liked. These few lines could be one of those and they just couldn't pin point or remember when they heard it. Because of these few moments are we really going to ignore ALL the other and SO many other songs that they have made and still making?
Is everyone forgetting what art is? Music is a form of art which millions of people make at the same time. Taking inspirations from each other and sometimes forgetting the source of it. Some things can be similar but do we really have to ignore the bigger picture? What they are trying to showcase and mean? Does the meaning and feelings behind the songs automatically become fake and untrue?
I don't about others and I don't know who and what is right or wrong with all of these RUMORS but what I do know is that I will always be on their (BTS') side.

Can we not forget that this is ART? and art can sometimes have some similar parts? That does not mean you ignore the entire picture and everything else and the meaning they are trying to show (just from one or two lines).
I don't know who is right or wrong since nothing has been really proven but I will always be on their side. I am NOT going to ignore their YEARS of hardworking for something like this.

Soothe your soul if for you the resemblance of a sentence in a text with another is plagiarism it is because your stupidity is matched only by your hatred for these boys continue to spew your hatred this does not change anything but BTS ARE THE BEST.

Isn't it suspicious that all these slanders were made to BTS when they are in the military? In my opinion, abusive people are taking advantage of their absence, however, we ARMYs always stay behind BTS.

Above all, I believe that this conflict is just an excuse for certain Internet users to spill their pseudo-knowledge and stir up tensions, one might think that this amuses them. Now each human being is inspired by another, whether it is behavior, the way of dressing, the way of expressing oneself, this does not amount to plagiarism, we must stop crying plagiarism for everything and nothing. Moreover why always involve artists in their conflicts we have the impression that it is a child custody war in a bad divorce leave the artists alone

Katie Mercier

Leave BTS alone they are in the army they can't defend themselves I support them with all my heart

Frankly, it's pathetic that it's come to this. We have to stop quibbling over words, at this rate we are all doing plagiarism and have been doing so ever since we knew how to speak. Now that the members of BTS are doing their military service, we're beating the crap out of them, you bunch of hypocrites.
