Over the years, more and more webtoons are being adapted for the screen. These mobile-friendly comics are very popular in South Korea and cover genres from romance to horror.

Some of the most notable titles have a cult following and, when brought to the screen, also gain popularity. These include the zombie apocalypse series “All of Us Are D3ad”, the supernatural thriller “Hellbound” and the Kdrama “DP”.

Whether it's thrillers, action films, or love stories, here are the best Korean series based on webtoons that you shouldn't miss on Netflix.

The series is based on the webtoon “Now at Our School” by Joo Dong-geun. The Netflix adaptation follows a group of students trapped in a high school who find themselves in a critical situation as they seek to be saved from the zombies in their school.

Netflix's Upcoming Thriller Drama Hellbound Is Rated "For Adults" in South Korea

“Hellbound” is based on the webtoon of the same title by Yeon Sang-ho, who is also the director of the South Korean zombie series and film Train to Busan.

It tells the story of otherworldly beings who appear to issue a decree and condemn individuals to hell. Amidst the confusion and chaos, a new religious group called "The New Truth" is gaining influence.

However, some are skeptical of the group's activities and set out to investigate their involvement in the mysterious supernatural events.

Sweet home

This apocalyptic horror series is based on the webtoon by Kim Carnby and Kwang Young-chan titled “Sweet Home”. The webtoon has received over 2,1 billion views for its 140-chapter story.

The Netflix adaptation follows reclusive high school student Cha Hyun-su (Song Kang) who moves into a new apartment after losing his family. One day, strange monsters start appearing in his building and Hyun-su must fight to survive.

“The Uncanny Counter” is based on the webtoon “Amazing Rumor” by Jang Yi. The story is about So Mun (Jo Byung-gyu), a disabled high school student who is always being bullied.

Later, he meets a group called the "Counters" who are actually paranormal hunters in disguise. They seek out and fight evil spirits that attack humans. The Counters ask So Mun to join them.

Itaewon Class could get an American remake

“Itaewon Class,” which features Park Seo-joon and Kim Da-mi in their television debut, is based on the webtoon of the same name. The K-drama revolves around Park Sae-ro-yi (Park) and his quest for revenge against the Jangga group, responsible for the death of his father.

To oppose the food conglomerate, he opened a pub called Danbam in Itaewon and hoped it would be successful enough to compete with the Jangga Group. Although he is ambitious, he doesn't know how to run his business and so seeks help from Jo Yi-seo (Kim Da-mi), a social media star.

Based on the webtoon July Found By Chance, "Extraordinary You" features SF9 member Rowoon and actress Kim Hye-hyoon in the lead role.

The series follows high school student Eun Dan-oh (Kim Hye-yoon), a student at a prestigious school. She discovers that she actually lives in the world of comic books and that she and everyone she knows are just characters in a comic book called Secret.

Dan-oh is just an extra in the comic book and must marry his long-time love (Lee Jae-wook) who does not return his feelings. Not satisfied with her fate, Dan-oh decides to take her destiny into her own hands by changing the plot and freeing herself from the constraints imposed by the screenwriter.

“Business Proposal” is a series based on Hae Hwa’s webtoon. It tells the story of an office worker, Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-jeong), who goes on a blind date with her company's CEO, Kang Tae-mu (Ahn Hyo- seop), in place of her friend, Jin Young-seo (Seol In-ah).

Ha-ri and Tae-mu decide to "pretend" in order to satisfy Tae-mu's grandfather who wants his grandson to get married. In exchange, Ha-ri receives money to help her family.

In Japan, “The King's Affection” surpasses “Squid Game” ranking in Top 1 series

SF9's Rowoon stars in another webtoon-inspired series (after Extraordinary You) in "The King's Affection" opposite Park Eun-bin. Based on Yeonmo by Lee So-young, the series is set during the Joseon Dynasty.

The story is about an abandoned twin (Park Eun-bin) who is forced to disguise herself as her crown prince brother, Yi Hwi, after the latter's death. She is taken in by Jung Ji-un (Rowoon) and the two slowly fall in love despite Yi Hwi's disguise.

New Netflix Original Drama “DP” Arrives This Month

"DP" is based on Kim's webtoon "DP Dog's Day" and tells the story of a Korean military police team called DP or Deserter Pursuit whose mission is to catch deserters.

Ahn Jun-ho (Jung Hae-in) becomes a member of the DP after enlisting in compulsory service. He teams up with Han Ho-yul (Koo Kyo-hwan) and discovers the harsh reality of those who run away from their base.

Rowoon's K-drama "Tomorrow" is once again based on a webtoon, this time written by Llama. He plays the role of Choi Joon-woong, who struggles to find viable employment despite his prestigious background.

One day he encounters a group of mysterious beings who are actually reapers. But instead of taking the dead to the afterlife, they save those who are about to die, especially those who are about to commit suicide. Joon-woong is hired to work with them.
